Project Outline
Malton Museum needs a new home. The lease on the existing museum is coming to an end and the space is not fit for purpose for a museum which wants to expand and grow, inline with the visitor expectations. A building in a prominent position within the town has become available and a project is being developed to deliver these plans.
Project Mandate
Naomi is providing support to the Museum Chair, through the Property Committee in developing the project to enable a greater understanding of what is required to make the journey from concept through to delivery. This includes advising the trustees and the teams on the information and direction of travel required. In addition, this includes managing the programme and developing the cost plans.
Facing Challenges, Delivering Results
The ownership of the building and collection makes this project complex. The buildings in Malton are predominantly owned by The Fitzwilliam Estate, and the Estate has given the museum care of its collections for the town’s benefit. In addition, there are a number of other collections which have been given into the care of the museum.
Careful navigation is required to help move the museum forwards. The development of this project, for and with the community will be the measure of its success. Naomi and Rob live and work in Malton and have that same sense of community and this is therefore a project very close to their hearts.
